Location

Ashford in the Water

One of the most picturesque villages in Derbyshire, Ashford in the water sits in the valley of the River Wye just two miles from the market town of Bakewell.

Three bridges cross the beautiful River Wye in the village which is full of character in an idyllic waterside setting. A small walled enclosure near the old Sheepwash Bridge is still occasionally used for its original purpose. Ashford was once the centre for the production of Black Marble, a highly polished limestone produced in local quarries and mines, an example of which can be seen in the main bedroom fireplace.

Chantry Cottage is an ideal spot for exploring the surrounding area. There are many walks from the cottage including a lovely walk to Monsal Head where you can enjoy fabulous views of Derbyshire along with a well earned refreshment from the nearby hostelry.

Bakewell is a 30 minutes walk away along the River Wye, where there are many little lanes, cafes and shops to explore. Bakewell has one of the oldest markets in the area with many places of interest, including the Old House Museum.

Chatsworth House and park is only a few minutes drive away with the magnificent house and gardens to explore. It also has a working farm open to visitors, adventure play area and farm shop.
